When Mikey Garcia Tweets, We Listen

Mikey Garcia is now a champion in four weight classes and with that brings new challenges. Since his domination of Sergey Lipinets for the IBF junior welterweight title back in early March, Garcia has been relatively silent.

However, Garcia tweeted that he has some new developments that he will announce soon and the boxing world can only speculate on what might be the next strategy on his hitlist.

On April 17, Garcia vacated the IBF title ditching his mandatory challenger, Ivan Baranchyk (18-0, 11 KOs) and confirming he would drop back to lightweight to defend his WBC title. Rumors have swirled for a few weeks now that Garcia is priming up to face Robert Easter, Jr (21-0, 14 KOs) out of Adrien Broner’s Band Camp to unify the IBF and WBC titles.

Easter, Jr., won the vacant lightweight title back in 2016 with a split decision victory over Richard Commey. He defended the title three times successfully with his last win coming in January over Javier Fortuna. Garcia bested Easter’s mentor back in July of last year and the fight would continue the promise of Broner to pay Garcia back for the loss if Easter is successful.

With Jorge Linares getting ready to face Vasiliy Lomachenko next week for his WBA title and Ray Beltran having just won the WBO lightweight title in February, the likelier alternative is Beltran but Garcia definitely has no plans of stopping his multi-weight class domination in boxing.
