TSL Sports Talk Recap- Julius “Dr. J” Erving

TSL Sports Talk had the privilege of welcoming NBA Hall of Famer and legend, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, to the show this week to talk about his new ventures and his illusstrious career in the NBA. TSL Sports Talk host, Mark Gray, opened up the interview by asking Dr. J about his new partnership with Anthem Media Group and what his duties will be as an investor and their new brand ambassador.

Dr. J:

Anthem [Media Group] is a content provider to basically all of the fantasy sports outlets that you come into contact with and hear about/advertised on a daily basis. Fantasy Sports is about getting the content accurate. It’s defined. Then having people make a judgment in terms of whom they’re going to put on their team and picking their lineups from the menu of players and performers. The Anthem Media Group has this umbrella [that includes] RotoExperts, Fantasy Sports Network, Fight Network, Persuit Channels, and Sports Grid. So they’re in a lot of areas in sports other than just the big four that we’re used to talking about. The targeting for myself, and Chris Doleman, is to help the strategic business development for the company and get them to places they haven’t gone or where they purport to go to.

If he ever thought fans would invest so much emotional energy into their fantasy players

I could not have imagined that. When you really think about it, there’s an innocence to it, in that, that a lot of women and children are into it. There’s always the sports guy or the armchair quarterback. So now, you’re bringing them together. You’re bringing that household together under that roof because they can all participate in their own and way feel that they’re creating something special.

If he thinks he would’ve been a fan’s #1 pick in a fantasy league in the peak of his career:

I would’ve been on somebody’s fantasy team, I’m sure.

Listen to the full interview above to hear more about his championship experiences in the NBA, the one player he thinks he might not beat one on one and more.
