Yahoo Sports combat sports writer, Kevin Iole, stopped by the TSL Power Hour to drop some gems about the current state of the fight game.
Fresh off the biggest pay-per-view of the year in Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan, Iole spoke about Khan making the monumental step up in weight from welterweight (147lbs) to the middleweight minimum limit (155lbs).
Khan was knocked out in the 6th and Iole sees him moving back down to face Danny Garcia for the WBC welterweight belt, as Khan is the mandatory challenger. In their previous meeting, Garcia KOd Khan so revenge must be on Khan’s mind and hopefully the re-match will be on the horizon. Why not Khan vs. fellow Brit Kell Brook? We address that too.
Iole also confirmed that Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Oscar De La Hoya, which represents Canelo Alvarez, called Tom Loeffler, Managing Partner for K2 Promotions who promotes Gennady GGG Golovkin the Sunday after the fight. However, he is doubtful that the fight will occur anytime soon based on a potential rematch between Canelo and Miguel Cotto from some prior negotiations before the Khan fight.
We also spoke about a potential heavyweight match-up between Deontay Wilder and newly signed Showtime boxer Anthony Joshua.
Finally Iole dished on MMA, touching on King Mo vs. Phil Davis, Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic and Ronda Rousey possibly calling it quits.
It’s a must-listen to for all who love hearing the insiders perspective from one of the best in the business. Absolutely!
