Todd Bowles Headed To The Big Apple

The Jets, after firing both Rex Ryan and John Idzik, were on the hunt for both a head coach and GM that could bring them back from mediocrity. Rumors swirled that they were pursuing former Bills' coach Doug Marrone, a move that didn't seem to stimulate any real excitement. So they expanded their search to Seattle, and all indications were that they would sign the Seahwaks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. But with the Seahawks in Super Bowl contention, the Jets couldn't offer him a deal until after the Super Bowl. So they kept their focus in the west and met with Arizona Cardinals' defensive coordinator, who impressed them in their January 7th interview.

Today it was revealed that the Jets will announce the signing of Todd Bowles as their new Head Coach, a day after announcing that former Texans' executive Mike Maccagnan would be their new GM. This gives the Jets a man who drafted J.J. Watt, a man who built one of the toughest defenses in the league and two men with New Jersey roots. Bowles also becomes the fifth black head coach in the league, along with Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin, Tampa Bay's Lovie Smith, Cincinnati's Marvin Lewis and Detroit's Jim Caldwell,

If anyone could bring out the hidden talent in the Jets it's Bowles. The heavy blitzing style of Bowles could make for a perfect match with the Jets as that is what Rex Ryan attempted to bring to the table. The biggest challenge will be on the offensive side of the ball, where questions at QB and a lack of overall talent, loom huge for the team.

But it seems that the Jets are moving in the right direction with Bowles. Former Jets cornerback, now Arizona Cardinal, expressed his support of the coach via Twitter.
