Time Is Illmatic, the documentary on the early life of Nas that is co-produced and directed by One9 and co-produced and written by Erik Parker, has been getting rave reviews since it opened the Tribeca Film Festival in April. Now, Tribeca Film announced that it has acquired the North American rights to Time Is Illmatic and is planning to release it sometime in October. It will hit theaters, DVD and video on demand the same day.
“With Time is Illmatic, Erik and I wanted to celebrate Nas’ groundbreaking album Illmatic and shed light on the socio-economic conditions that created it,” said One9. “Most importantly, we wanted to show how one piece of art gave hope to those searching for their voice in America. We are confident that our partnership with Tribeca will give the proper platform for this important American experience.”
Nas is scheduled to perform in selected cities where the film will open.
