The Marathon Continues: Happy 34th Birthday To The Late Nipsey Hussle

On March 31, 2019, the hip hop community lost a piece of itself. Ermias Asghedom, known to many as Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed outside of his clothing store in L.A. He was only 33.

Today fans, friends, and family gather to pay their respects for what would’ve been Nipsey’s 34th birthday.

Nipsey was not only a rapper but beacon in his community and across the world. He was an entrepreneur and worked hard to revitalize the Crenshaw neighborhood where he was born and raised.

One of his most unique accomplishments might be that in 2013 Nipsey released his albums for $100 apiece. It was a risky but necessary move that caught the eye of hip hop mogul Jay Z, who in turn purchased $10,000 worth of copies. That strategy was a testament to the type of businessman Nipsey was and also launched his career to new heights.

Nipsey’s work also included a partnership with sneaker brand Puma to renovate a local elementary school’s playground and basketball courts. The Grammy-nominated rapper was heavily involved in Destination Crenshaw, an open-air public art project. And just last year, he opened a shared working space called Vector90 which was designed to connect young talent in impoverished communities with opportunities in Silicon Valley. Not to mention owning several businesses which provided jobs for many.

Check out how some are celebrating his life today:

Nipsey will forever be remembered not only for his musical talent, but his sharp business sense and most importantly his love and service to his community.

Today we say happy birthday Nipsey, the marathon continues.
