Shawn Porter vs. Adrian Granados Is Must-See TV

When Adrian Granados took on Adrien Broner at the Cintas Center last February, he gained many new fans in the boxing world. Not many knew of the Mexican boxer from Cicero, Illinois, but they left remembering the kid that beat Broner; despite the fact that two ringside judges didn’t see it that way and he wound up losing a split decision.

Still, Granados had plenty of fire in the belly after the loss, blaming Broner’s hometown of favoritism and asking him to fight in Chicago during the post-fight in-ring interview. Since then, Broner fought and lost a unanimous decision to Mikey Garcia while Granados has been waiting for another moment in the light.

CINCINNATI – Boxing in his hometown after a tumultuous year of legal and personal troubles, Adrien “The Problem” Broner fought to a split decision over Adrian Granados in a 10-round welterweight bout Saturday night at Xavier University’s Cintas Center.

Enter Shawn Porter, who after taking a controversial loss to Keith Thurman for the welterweight titles, was supposed to fight on the undercard of Mayweather vs. McGregor, but pulled out due to personal reasons.

When the news arrived that Porter would be back in action as the co-main event for the Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz bout, it rounded out a solid card. The fact that Granados was the opponent showed that Porter is never scared.

I feel very familiar with Granados at this point,” said Porter during training camp. “One night I watched about three or four of his fights and some interviews and really got to put him in my mind. Hes an aggressive fighter whos not easily hurt or fazed by whats going on in the ring. Whether thats him getting hit or an opponent making him miss.”

Fighter of the Week: Shawn Porter

FIGHTER OF THE WEEK: Former welterweight world champion “Showtime” Shawn Porter returns to the ring Nov. 4 when he faces tough challenger Adrian Granados in the co-main event of Deontay Wilder’s heavyweight title rematch against Bermaine Stiverne on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Visit PremierBoxingChampions.com for info.

However, once Ortiz was scrapped from the card due to a failed drug test, the bout was in jeopardy until Wilder agreed to a rematch with Bermane Stiverne. But with everyone convinced that Wilder will repeat the same lopsided victory, the Porter vs. Granados match is now that much more interesting.

It was a surprise when I got the call for this fight but I jumped right at the opportunity to get in the ring with Shawn Porter,” said Granados during training camp. “He had a close fight with Keith Thurman and a win over Adrien Broner, so a victory over him puts me right back at the top of the division.”

The welterweight division has definitely etched out its top competitors, but with fighters like Porter and Danny Garcia, former champions willing to fight top challengers, the game can turn on its head at any time.

Shawn fought at 165 in the amateurs, much bigger than me and I remember him well, he was also a football player so he was much heavier. Since he turned pro Ive spent more time watching his fights and studying him, especially these last few weeks knowing that were fighting each other at 147.”

SHAWN PORTER CALLS OUT DANNY GARCIA!!!

Shawn Porter goes WWE on DSG

Porter has been going hard on social media looking for a fight with Danny Garcia. This fight against Granados, although Porter is skewed to look like the winner, is a dangerous one. With Terence Crawford entering the welterweight ranks after decimating the light welterweight division, and his mandatory being WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn, a shot at Thurman is possible for any of the aforementioned.

Were going after the WBC title. Were going to have our sights set on Keith Thurman,” said Porter. “I want to get that rematch sometime next year. Outside of that, the only fighter on my mind is Danny Garcia, because hes a guy who I think Id make an exciting fight with.

Both harboring an aggressive style and with everything on the line, including the vacant WBC welterweight title, Shawn Porter vs. Adrian Granados will be the fight of the night this Saturday.
