Coca-Cola announced on Tuesday it purchased a minority stake in the Kobe Bryant-invested sports drink BodyArmor.
Bryant’s initial investment in the brand was roughly $6 million over time. Based on Coca-Cola’s deal, his stake is now reportedly worth approximately $200 million, according to ESPN.
The Black Mamba is now the fourth-largest investor in the brand behind the BodyArmor’s co-founder Mike Repole, Coca-Cola and Keurig Dr. Pepper.
Coca-Cola’s acquisition deal will give the sports drink more awareness and a bigger network to grow in. This deal will further elevate BodyArmor, which is projected to top $400 million in sales in 2018.
Since ending his 20-year NBA career, Bryant’s been making headway in both the investment capital firm world and entertainment industry. His “Dear Basketball” short animation won an Oscar and he has since formed a $100 million joint venture investment firm with Jeff Stibel.
