The New York Knicks have agreed with Sacramento Kings Vice President of Basketball Operations Scott Perry to become their new General Manager.
Perry was hired just three months ago by Sacramento, but was reportedly given permission by the Kings to interview for his “dream job” with the Knicks.

If Knicks hire Scott Perry as GM it’d be one of their smartest moves in a long time. Well respected with a great eye for talent
Perry, 57, has been an executive with the Pistons, Supersonics and Magic. He was in Seattle’s front office when they drafted Kevin Durant and worked in the Detroit’s front office under Joe Dumars for six years. He started in 2001 and helped oversee a roster overhaul, including the acquisitions of Ben Wallace, Richard Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace and the drafting of Tayshaun Prince, that would eventually produce a franchise resurgence and excitement that hadn’t been experienced since the Bad Boys era. Those shrewd moves resulted in the team winning the 2004 NBA championship.
Many expected former Knick Allan Houston, who has been with the organization as a player and executive for the majority of the last 20 years, to get the GM job after Phil Jackson literally fell asleep at the wheel and was fired.
Perry will now take on what is one of the most difficult rebuilding jobs in the NBA. Sorting out Carmelo Anthony’s future will be his first order of business. His hiring should bring some much needed stability and intelligence to a Knicks’ front office that has been devoid of those qualities for years.
