Former NFL kicker Jay Feely apologized for posting a joking photo of him holding a pistol while standing between his daughter and her prom date.

Wishing my beautiful daughter and her date a great time at prom #BadBoys
According to Feely, the original post was intended to be a lighthearted joke but was received with a lot of backlash.
The prom picture I posted was obviously intended to be a joke. My daughter has dated her boyfriend for over a year and they knew I was joking. I take gun safety seriously (the gun was not loaded and had no clip in) and I did not intend to be insensitive to that important issue, Feely said.

The Bad Boys hashtag within the original tweet was used as a cultural reference to a scene in Bad Boys 2 where Detective Marcus Burnett, aka Martin Lawrence, and Detective Mike Lowrey, Will Smith, intimidated a boy who wanted to take Burnetts daughter out.
Bad Boys Date Scene. Wish I could do this to my daughters first date!

This was definitely not a smooth move by Feely, especially during a weekend where the latest deadly shooting occurred at a Tennessee Waffle House in Nashville where four people died.
Some individuals say that the coverage for this tweet is a far left wing push in media but, considering there has been on average 1 school shooting every week this year, this can be deemed insensitive and quite frankly, it wasn’t smart at all to post.
