David Fizdale will be the next head coach of the Knicks, per @wojespn.
Knicks owner James Dolan met with Fizdale on Thursday in New York, who then gave his approval to president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry to enter into contract negotiations with the former Memphis head coach.
Fizdale, who coached the Grizzlies into the Western Conference playoffs in his one full season as coach, was reportedly New York’s primary target from the jump. Former Cavaliers coach David Blatt and former Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer were among the candidates Knicks president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry have met with in recent weeks.
Former Warriors coach Mark Jackson, Heat assistant Juwan Howard, Spurs assistant James Borrego, Toronto G League coach Jerry Stackhouse, Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga, Clippers assistant Mike Woodson and television analyst Kenny Smith were also among the candidates the Knicks interviewed to replace Jeff Hornacek, who was fired in April after two seasons as coach.
