“C’Mon Son!!!” is a semi-regular column on The Shadow League where we lovingly tap some fool on the shoulder in order to help them through some personal growth. Today’s moron is NFL Hall of Fame GM and TV commentator Bill Polian, who said that Randy Moss and Terrell Owens do not belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Theres no question that Randy Moss and Terrell Owens belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. They will go down as Top-10 all-time pass-snatchers when they are eventually enshrined in Canton.
Most folks think Moss will go in on the first ballot with Ray Lewis in 2018. T.O. was dissed this year, but is expected to get in soon. After all, everybody cant go in first ballot. That honor should be reserved for a few immortal players.
In another instance of old, white dudes bashing on current or recently retired Black athletes, on Monday, Hall of Fame GM Bill Polian told Clark Judge on Talk Fame Network that he doesnt think primadonna receivers Terrell Owens and Randy Moss belong in the Hall of Fame.
Polian says Owens was a problem child and Moss didnt work hard. Honestly, what crazy home did Polian just bust out of? What meds is the old geezer on?
I take neither, said Polian, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015. First of all, heres my position: Contribute both individually and to the team. T.O.s situation, T.O.s temperament, his ability to contribute to the team was well known up front. He was going to be a problem. We did not want to deal with problem children. Others may. We didnt. Thats number one.
Number two, every year in Indianapolis we said the following: The price of admission is 100 percent effort all the time in everything we do. Well, how can we take Randy Moss when we make that statement? Its that simple.
Polian is off his rocker and thats why you just have to let some people talk and hang themselves. His resume is legit. He went to three Super Bowls as the general manager of the Bills and won a Super Bowl with the Colts. In his 23 years as a general manager, his teams went 229-138.
However, the type of players he had with the Colts when they won the Super Bowl has nothing on Gods green earth to do with the qualifications of Moss and T.O. for the Hall of Fame.
Despite their mood swings and combative personalities, sensitive and ornery dispositions (and overblown media personas) they were transcendent players, production machines and human highlight films that helped revolutionize the NFLs passing schemes and push the possibilities of aerial excellence to new levels.
As brothers who defied the odds and rose from meager beginnings, they are walking American success stories. When someone of another race attempts to belittle our heroes in their finest hour, we have to check them.
This isn’t the 1960’s and ’70s. Elite players arent controlled anymore or threatened to act a certain way in fear of being released. They set the standards for the league and when Moss and T.O. were doing their thing, the NFL benefited from it.
To my knowledge, when a TD is scored, the entire team is credited with the points, so there nothing selfish about multiple TD receiving seasons.
Polian might be a very nice guy who is down with all the brothers, but his stupid statement aimed at two of the top athletes of our generation, puts his integrity or sanity into question, and wreaks of a bit of racism.
Wild Bill knows that he is a respected voice and damaging those guys Hall of Fame credibility in that manner is just inexcusable. Cats get pimp slapped for acts like that.
Polian can exit stage left on that one.
