Spike Lee and Showtime to Reboot She’s Gotta Have It

She’s Gotta Have It was the 1986 feature film that helped turned writer-director Spike Lee into a household name. But there are generations of moviegoers who have never seen that film and are not aware of its cultural significance for African-Americans; from the sultry Nola to the comically-hood Mars Blackman, She’s Gotta Have It explored themes of race, gender, sexuality and gentrification in Brooklyn.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Showtime and Spike Lee have come together to take a contemporary look at the movie that helped launch the independent film movement in the 1980s.  Lee will write and direct the project should Showtime decide to move from the development stage to pilot.
