The upcoming movie, Son of God, based on The Bible TV miniseries, is still hoping to avoid controversy. The History channel’s 10-hour TV miniseries, which had to be cut down to 2 hours for the film, was plagued with scandal surrounding the role of actor, Mohamen Mehdi Ouzanni, whose character, Satan aka the devil, resembled President Barack Obama.
According to a producers for the project, “Someone made a comment that the actor who played the devil vaguely resembled our president, and suddenly the media went nuts.”
And why would the media not talk about this?
After countless blogs on the similarities between Satan and Obama, even some posting side-by-side comparison photos of the two, the producers of the miniseries and the History channel vehemently denied any bogus connections between Satan and Obama, even issuing statements of support for the President. Thanks to this negative press, producers admitted to going out of their way to completely eliminate the character Satan from their version. The new plan is to focus the film solely around the character Jesus.
But anyone who knows the story of Jesus from the Bible knows how integral the role of Satan is with his temptations. Time will tell if the elimination of his role will have an effect on the overall success of the film. After all, what’s a good story without any gritty hurdles to overcome? As long as they don’t resemble Obama…
The 20th Century Fox film opens February 28.
