Saturday will mark the 108th edition of the storied Red River Rivalry, an annual clash between college football powerhouses, Texas and Oklahoma. However this season's matchup does not carry the same marquee feel as the Sooners are heavy favorites, two touchdowns to be exact. But no matter the prediction, we all know that anything is possible in a rivalry game.
In 2004 the anticipation was much different. It featured a #5 Texas team taking on then #2 Oklahoma from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Enter a freshman from East Texas by the name of Adrian Peterson who spurned the Longhorns and took his talents to Stillwater to play for the Sooners.
Oklahoma's fabulous freshman started his career with four consecutive 100-yard games, but he saved his best game for the national stage. Peterson shredded fifth-ranked Texas for 225 yards on 32 carries in a 12-0 win. While Peterson ground down the Texas defense and controlled the clock, Oklahoma's defense did the rest. The shutout was the first for Texas in 282 games.
