Niagra guard Antoine Mason’s name may not ring many bells to the casual college hoops fans, but his father was Anthony was a starting forward and fan favorite of Knick fans for years.
His son Antoine has a somewhat lower profile as the NCAA’s leading scorer for one of the worst teams in the MAAC Conference. Despite that statistical production, Antoine was only named second-team MAAC.
On Thursday, CBS Sports' college basketball analyst Jeff Borzello reported that Mason would be transferring for his senior season. Mason's loss is compounded by Niagara also losing two of their other top four scorers due to graduation and the transfer of Tahjere McCall.
Because Mason already has his bachelor’s degree, he will be eligible to play immediately next season. It’s worth mentioning that Mason’s brother, Anthony Mason Jr. played at St. John’s and it’s only reasonable to imagine that he and the Red Storm would be on each other's radar.
