Mo’ne Davis Named AP Female Athlete Of The Year

This past summer fans of the Little League World Series witnessed two amazing firsts. An all Black team, Jackie Robinson West from Chicago, won the U.S. Championship and Mo'ne Davis, the star athlete on the team from Philadelphia, became the first girl to win a Little League World Series game.

After taking the LLWS by storm, Mo'ne continued to be covered by press, ending up on the cover of Sports Illustrated, appearing in a Chevy commercial, marched in the Thanksgiving Day parade and even met the Obamas at the White House. Incredible achievements for any 13 year old, boy or girl.

Now Davis can add the AP Female Athlete of the Year award to her trophy case as she took home the award over college freshman Lauren Hill and tennis star Serena Williams. Lauren Hill, playing for St. Joseph is battling brain cancer and played in her first college basketball game.

Mo'ne is the youngest female athlete to win the award and the three sport athlete doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon.
