Miami Hurricanes fire Al Golden after worst loss in program history

One day after suffering it’s worst loss in school history, Athletic Director James Blake announced that Al Golden was relieved of his head coaching duties at the University of Miami.

The visiting Clemson Tigers annihilated the Hurricanes 58-0 Saturday night, dropping their record to (4-3). Assistant Larry Scott will take over as interim head coach.

Coach Golden has led our program through some very difficult times and he has done so with class, integrity and a true desire to see our students succeed on the field, in the classroom and in the community. James said.  However, we have a proud tradition of excellence at Miami, not just in football but in all sports, and we want to compete for ACC and national championships.  I simply believe that now is the time to bring the Hurricane Family together and rally behind our young men.

Golden led the ‘Canes to a 32-25 record during his five seasons as head coach. Will this change prevent them from their second consecutive losing season? Doubtful. The team has a shortage of talent. Fans of “The U” can only dream of the glory days of the program, which have seemingly been ages ago when they were still attracting stand out ballers to Coral Gables.
