Thomas Blige, described as the estranged father of award-winning recording artist Mary J. Blige, is in critical condition in a Michigan hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds to his neck and torso. The 63-year-old Blige was taken to a Kalamazoo area hospital for surgery after being attacked in the parking lot of his housing complex.
Cheryl Ann White, his ex-girlfriend, was arrested at the scene and charged with assault with intent to murder. According to police, the incident escalated from a domestic dispute. Neighbors told reporters that the two argued often. Cops say that Blige confronted the woman when he discovered her slashing the tires on his sport-utility vehicle.
“During the course of the confrontation, the female stabbed the victim in the neck,” according to a police statement.
Michael Thomas, Blige’s roommate, told NBC that Blige “heard some hissing sounds that he heard from outside, where the air was being let out of his tires.”
“He came back in and yelled for me,” said Thomas, who said he found Blige on the kitchen floor, “bleeding profusely” from stab wounds to his throat, side and arm”
There is no word yet from the camp of MJB regarding her take on the situation. There were no Facebook or Twitter statements regarding her father’s condition posted on social media.
