Looks like Captain Marvel won't be the only female-led superhero movie from the MCU to hit the big screens.

Looks like Captain Marvel won’t be the only female-led superhero movie from the MCU to hit the big screens.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege confirmed that along with the premiere of Carol Danvers, who’ll be played by Brie Larson, there are plans in the works for introducing Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan, Marvel’s first Pakistani-American Muslim superhero.

And while he revealed this in a BBC interview, he didn’t mention any further details besides saying that a Ms. Marvel live-action debut is “in the works.”

Captain Marvels shooting right now with Brie Larson, Feige said. Ms. Marvel, which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works. We have plans for that once we introduce Captain Marvel.

This may come as a surprise or news to non-Marvel comic book followers but, this is very timely and necessary, especially with the negative representation of Muslims within movies and media now.

For those who are unfamiliar with the superhero’s background, here’s a little bit of information to help you get up to speed:

“Kamala Khan is a Pakistani-American superhero. She devotedly followed the career of Carol Danvers, the former Ms. Marvel who had recently started going by the name Captain Marvel. One night, hoping to prove herself, she went against her best friend, Bruno Carrelli, and her parents’ wishes to go to a part at the Jersey Waterfront. While there she was teased by her classmates and her boyfriend Josh Richardson.

While she was on her way home, Jersey City was suddenly blanketed in the Terrigen Mists (a mutation-causing substance from the Terrigen Crystals), and Kamala along with it. While Unconscious she saw a vision of three of her favorite superheroes — Captain America, Iron Man and Captain Marvel. The heroes scolded her for her disobedience but then asked her what she wanted in life. She responded saying that she wanted to be more like Captain Marvel.

When the vision ended and Kamala emerged from her Terrigenesis, she was shocked to find that she had literally been transformed into a younger Carol Danvers in her Ms. Marvel costume. And from there, she became Ms. Marvel.”
