‘Too Much Pressure On A Kid’: QB Marshall Manning, Son Of NFL Legend Peyton Manning, Makes High School Debut As Teammate Steals The Show

The last name Manning is synonymous with the quarterback position. There was Archie, the patriarch of the bunch, and he was followed by his two sons Peyton and Eli, who won two Super Bowls each with Eli defeating the Patriots dynasty twice.

Then there’s Arch Manning (Texas starting quarterback) the son of the only Manning not to play quarterback, Cooper, who played wide receiver before having to end his career prematurely after being diagnosed with spinal stenosis prior to his freshman season at Ole Miss. Now there’s Marshall, the son of the aforementioned Peyton, playing quarterback for the , the No. 12-ranked high school football team in the country.

Marshall Manning Makes High School Debut, But Teammate Steals The Show

In the Baylor School’s season-opening 38-20 win over Brentwood Academy on Thursday night, Manning saw time in relief of senior four-star recruit and Ole Miss commit Keegan Croucher. While Manning didn’t really have the opportunity to make a real impact, his legendary dad was on the sideline in support.

But it was five-star and No. 2-ranked running back David Gabriel-Georges that put on a show for everyone to see. The star tailback had 255 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns. The Tennessee Volunteers commit made a few jaw-dropping runs that had fans in utter shock. While the runs were great for us fans, it had to almost give Vols head coach Josh Heupel a heart attack.

Although Gabriel-Georges’ big night should’ve dominated the headlines, nothing tops a Manning being on the same field, and fans had plenty to say about that very thing.

Fans Chime In

Manning’s debut had social media in a frenzy with fans doing their usual best to give us as many crazy, wild and outlandish comments they can.

“This will align perfectly with the Jets seven-year plan,” a fan said.

“Baylor School about to have every college scout in America show up,” another fan said.

“Too much pressure for a kid. Kids of the greats don’t end up like the greats often,” someone commented.

“Doesn’t look like he has Dad’s height,” a person replied.

“He definitely has more of ‘it’ than Arch,” a fan commented.

“Buddy has his mouth guard sticking out of the top of his helmet. What’s the point,” a fan quipped.

“Not being disrespectful, but that’s just average throwing and movement on the field. There are plenty of QBs already in college freshman and up that have better fundamentals” someone spewed.

Manning Learning To Eventually Assume Starting Role In Future

As just a freshman, Marshall is on the Baylor School staff’s long-term developmental plan. He is expected to see regular backup action in games throughout his freshman season to prepare for a future starting role.

The Baylor School coaching staff plans to get the Class of 2030 quarterback live game snaps in every contest this season rather than keeping him strictly on the freshman or JV squads.

As a young backup adjusting to high school varsity competition, his immediate future centers on physical growth, learning the playbook, and gradually expanding his on-field workload over the next few years before taking over as the full-time starter.
