With this year’s NCAA Tournament off to a crazy start and brackets being busted VERY early (thanks Villanova, Iowa St. and Baylor), social media has been buzzing off the hook. Fans are cheering for their teams, spitting venom at busted brackets and throwing hate at their rivals and competitors, and most of it is being done on Twitter and Facebook.
With the help of our friends at MVP Index, we took a look at some of social media stats and various posts and tweets from fans, famous athletes and entertainers and school alums. In the past week, there have been 511 posts to social media using #MarchMadness.
The most popular? Kentucky alum Anthony Davis with this TBT post to Facebook. This post killed. It got 1,962% more likes on Facebook then the average athlete #marchmadness post to the platform.
Tim Hardaway, Jr came in second with this TBT shot posted to Instagram repping the Maize and Blue:
Third place went to Michael Vick with his support of the underdog Georgia State bulldogs in their shocking upset of Baylor.
And we have to throw in this fourth place TBT post to facebook from Scottie Pippin, reliving those glory days and the shorts that were glad to see go by the wayside:
We’ll be checking back with our friends at MVP Index later this week to look at some of the interesting social media postings from the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight, and then what people are saying as we head into the Final Four.
Bet Shane wished he hadn’t said this:
I am really firing Big Blue nation up with my pick of WVU. Let’s not focus on why it won’t happen. Let’s focus on why it could happen.
