Lakers Guard Steve Nash Reportedly Done For The Season

Steve Nash, eight time NBA All-Star and two time League MVP, appears to be done for the season with a back injury, one that might lead to the retirement of one of the greatest point guards in NBA history.

Per a statement from the Lakers today:

"Being on the court this season has been my top priority and it is disappointing to not be able to do that right now,” said Nash. “I work very hard to stay healthy and unfortunately my recent setback makes performing at full capacity difficult. I will continue to support my team during this period of rest, and will focus on my long-term health.”

“As disappointed as we are for ourselves and our fans, we're even more disappointed for Steve,” said Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak. “We know how hard he's worked the last two years to try to get his body right for the rigors of the NBA, and how badly he wants to play, but unfortunately he simply hasn't been able to get there up to this point in time. Steve has been a consummate professional, and we greatly appreciate his efforts.”

Bleacher Report is reporting that he is done for the season while USA Today reports that Nash, 40, has not decided whether he's retiring or not; but at the age of 40, with a degenerative back condition, many would assume that Nash will be hanging up his jersey and walking away from a long and incredibly successful career in the NBA, a career that includes averaging 14.3 points and 8.5 assists a game while shooting 90.4% from the free throw line (per Pro Basketball Reference)

Not bad for the former 1st round pick from Santa Clara who played for the Suns, Mavericks and Lakers.
