Kobe Bryant’s “Dear Basketball” Is Nominated For An Oscar

Kobe Bryant might be getting his hoops fix via courtside seats and NBA League pass nowadays, but his love for the game will never fade. In addition to his status as one of the greatest to ever lace ’em up, a cat that was so nice that the Lakers retired his jersey twice, he’s an Oscar-nominated athlete as well.

His short film, “Dear Basketball,” — based on the 2015 letter he wrote The Players Tribune to announce his retirement — has been nominated for Best Animated Short at the 2018 Oscars.

Directed by award winning Disney animator, Glen Keane, and scored by Oscar Award winning composer, John Williams, this animated short is nothing short of spectacular. With his legend-making, 20-year NBA career complete, Kobe Bryant launches his next chapter with an animated short that embodies his incomparable retirement announcement poem.

The film was released last April at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival.
