Aside from having an underwhelming roster, the Pistons' coaching issues have been well-documented. We're far past the Chuck Daly days. With the hiring of Maurice Cheeks to take over for Lawrence Frank, the Pistons are on their fourth coach since 2008.
Now it looks like they're pairing up Mo Cheeks with Rasheed Wallace as assistant coach, Frank Isola of The New York Daily News reported. The Pistons might not be any good, but they're must-see TV for bench commentary alone. How many columns/blog posts/tweets could the digital world get out of 'Sheed-focused coverage?
In this case, who could deny the NBA as the most entertaining pro sports league?
No seriously, 'Sheed has long been considered one of the smartest basketball players of his generation. And if the Pistons have been worried about player relations with coaches, this here certainly won't be an issue.
We know Cheeks and 'Sheed immediately command the respect of the locker room, because no one born in the mid-to-late 80s or early 90s wants those kind of problems.
This is a good look. It offers a new perspective we didn't anticipate when Brooklyn plays Detroit. 'Sheed, Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce will all be in the building. Now all the Pistons need to do is get some players.
