After a visit to The Met in London, painter Amar Stewart was inspired to create his "Hip Hop Royalty" art series, which depicts modern hip hop icons as 17th century royalty. Stewart’s current “Hip Hop Royalty” series features depictions of Jay Z, Eminem, Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., and Eazy- E. "My vision is to touch on what I think is modern day royalty," Stewart says, "placing the greats, emcees and producers, in The Golden Age."
Stewart, who has a solo show coming up in San Francisco, California at Public Library August 7, says he is also developing bigger projects.
"After that I'm going to continue this concept, but work on larger scale pieces," he told HipHopDX. "I've been focusing more on one subject, but it's time to build on this and create more in-depth work with a story. I'm excited to see where it goes. I have also started releasing some [merchandise] on my online store. I want to expand on this too."
