This weekend’s NFL Wild Card playoff games are shining with young hot-shot QBs, teams playing at different ends of the spectrum and potential playoff upsets.
There must be an oil shortage, because the Texans ran out of gas down the stretch, dropping three of its final four games and falling to a No. 3 seed. QB Matt Shaub needs to shake his funk and pull the big guns out the trunk. Speaking of guns, Bengals sophomore QB Andy “Red Rifle” Dalton doesn’t get props like the other new jacks doing damage, but he once again has Marvin “Teflon” Lewis in position to win the Bengal’s first playoff game since 1990.
Minnesota’s Christian Ponder, another second-year QB, is playing his best ball. Thanks to Purple Jesus, defenses are playing Twister trying to stop the run while Ponder makes key throws. That being said, beating Aaron Rodgers two weeks in a row – the second time at Lambeau — is as hard as picking a winner in the Seattle-Washington game.
In a game which carries more swag than the “Spend It” remix, ROY candidates RG3 and Russell Wilson go line- for- line, bricks-to-sticks at each other . When the smoke clears, one of them will be a game closer to the Super Bowl. A big break and some luck will decide this one.
If we’re talking Luck, Baltimore’s had little, losing Ray Lewis and battling injuries to the once-dominant defense. The Colts have plenty of it in rookie slinger Andrew. He’s looking to rack up 10, 20 and 50-yard gains against the Ravens, who have to stay scheming.
