Ice Cube’s BIG3 Is Looking To Kill At Will When It Tips This Weekend

Ice Cubes inaugural BIG3 league kicks off its season on Sunday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

To get everyone in the mood and heighten the anticipation, Cube dropped a hot promo video earlier this week featuring some of the league’s premier stars.

Allen Iverson, the face of the league and my pick for the inaugural MVP, was prominently featured along with another Sixers legend, Dr. J, who will be lending his icon power and basketball intellect to the mix as a coach. The crop of former NBA studs that will drive the BIG3 this summer also had cameos throughout the promo joint.

Coming to FOX Sports FS1 The BIG3 is where the best to ever do it, keep doing it. We’re changing the game. Ice Cube and The Answer: The Making of the BIG3 premieres Thursday, June 22 at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT. www.big3.com

In an interview with Billboard back in March, Cube offered some of his predictions for the 3-on-3 basketball season.

“The Chauncey Billups and Stephen Jackson team is going to be pretty tough to beat,” said Cube. “I’m interested in ‘White Chocolate,’ [Jason Williams] and Rashard Lewis’ team, because I think they’ll be able to move around and hit big shots. Kenyon Martin and Al Harrington seems like a bruising team that’s rough in the paint, so it’s really interesting to see how this thing develops.”

The league will surely be medicine for those fans who thought theyd never see certain ballers grace the court again.

Former NBA stars Mike Bibby and Stephen Jackson are also featured on teams. Ice Cube has been a busy entrepreneur/entertainer/CEO/actor. Hes also proving to be one of the shrewdest moguls in the game. Just look at these rosters featuring a plethora of “forgotten” NBA beasts that get to ball in huge arenas once again.

If BIG3 isnt causing enough excitement and generating enough paper for Cube, hes managed to maneuver himself into the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor situation.

The highly-anticipated and hyped fight may not be able to go off as planned because the desired venue, the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, has already been booked by Cubes 3-on-3 league for August 26th. Currently the championship game of the inaugural 10-week season is set for that Saturday, and, according to Cube, if Mayweather and McGregor hope to take the T-Mobile from him, then its going to cost them a nice cut into the action.

Appearing on FS1’s Undisputed yesterday, Cube was asked if he’d be willing to move his game for “small compensation,” and the rapper said, “Of course!”

“If they do what they’re supposed to do and make us happy, yeah, we’ll move. We’re talking about it. I think we’re gonna get there.”

Cube is actually holding all the cards as far as whether or not the Mayweather-McGregor fight goes off without a hitch in the large desired venue.

So hes got that situation percolating. As far as music goes, he re-released his sophomore album Death Certificate earlier this month for the project’s 25th anniversary. The album came equipped with three new songs, including Only One Me, Dominate the Weak and Good Cop, Bad Cop.”

When Cube wasnt purely collecting cash for his various talents, he took time to go on Bill Mahers show and blast the politically incorrect talk show host for his use of the N-word. Cube broke it down and chastised Maher in an eloquent, serious manner and had Maher fumbling over his words like a running back with vaseline on his hands.

Its all in a months work for Cube, who is proving to be quite the visionary, and nothing he does as an adult has any detrimental effects on his community or the rest of the world. In fact, to many, the BIG3 league is a godsend and Cube is now seen as the miracle worker.
