In the spirit of Black Business Month, it’s only right that we give readers some insight on ways that consumers can actually find Black-owned businesses and spend with them. Many people of color would love to support Black-owned businesses or solely frequent them — if they knew where to find these establishments.
One of the key ways is to look out for Google’s Black-owned business attribute, which allows merchants in the U.S. with a verified Business Profile on Google to add a Black-owned business attribute to their profile.
There has been a huge influx in online searches for Black businesses over the past few months, and this new attribute is essential to making it easier for customers to find them. Google’s full announcement on the attribute is HERE.
For those business soul searchers, here’s a very easy way to add the Black-owned business attribute to your google business profile in 4 easy steps.
- On your computer, set up a free Google Business Profile, or if you’re already setup, sign in. If you have multiple locations, open the location you’d like to manage.
- From the menu, click Info.
- Find Add Attributes and click Edit. You can search for the Black-owned attribute to add.
- When you’re finished updating your attributes, click Apply. New attributes will be visible to customers who find your business on Google Search and Maps.
If buying Black and supporting minority-owned businesses is something you desire to do, well now you have the knowledge at your fingertips and can get started and continue long after Black Business Month ends.
