Golfer’s Wife Attacks Family And Cops, But We Can’t Get Waffles

Add this to the ever growing file of White privilege.

After all of the recent incidents we’ve been forced to watch in disbelief, anger and heartbreak where Black people have been victims of racial fear and cop calling for doing nothing but being Black, a situation that erupted on a golf course this past weekend might just exhaust everyone’s basic common sense and patience.

Krista Glover, the wife of former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, was arrested on charges of domestic violence after she went after her husband and his mother after he failed to make the cut at the Player’s Championship this past weekend.

According to the AP, “Glover and his wife were having an altercation after the third round of The Players Championship, where Glover shot 78. The report said that when his mother, Hershey Glover, tried to intervene, Krista Glover began attacking her.”

The officer who arrested Krista saw that Glover’s mother had cuts and blood on her arms and on her clothing, with his Mother, Hershey Glover, telling the officer that she had been hit in the chest.

Everyone is fine, Glover said on Twitter, trying to play down the situation. Regrettably, although Krista was charged, we are comfortable that the judicial system is able to address what actually happened and Krista will be cleared in this private matter.

But in the era of Trump, it’s not simply a private matter but rather a manifestation of the unequal world we live in, one in which calling the police on Black people has become what seems to be the norm.

According to Golf Digest, “Police officials noted in the report that Krista resisted them, refusing to get in the squad car by ‘blocking herself from sitting down.’ She reportedly attempted to wrap her legs around the car door, but deputies were able to push her in. Krista reportedly damaged the inside of the vehicle by kicking the door. During the transportation process, the report states Krista’s handcuffs were loosened and she attempted to flee. Two lawmen were able to re-handcuff her.”

The official police report also notes that she verbally abused the police with threatening language.

This is why cops get shot in the face, she allegedly yelled at the officers, also adding Wait till the Tour hears about this, you will lose your job, and, Wait till I talk with the judge, you will be fg fired over this.

Wow. Imagine if she was Black and in a Waffle House and said that.

Lucas tried to excuse his wife’s behavior and antics to drinking and that she gets that way when he plays poorly. He told officers “when he plays a bad round of golf, Krista proceeds to start an altercation with him and telling him how he is a loser and a p***y, how he needs to fire everyone, and how he’d better win or her and the kids would leave him and he would never see the kids again.”

We can already see you all seething at this incident as you get ready to explode after thinking about all of the recent incidents when Black people were assaulted for doing nothing but being Black. Sitting in a Starbucks, eating at a Waffle House, sleeping in a common room at a University you’re enrolled at, to all the incidents where Black men were killed by police for not doing anything threatening. It’s amazingly stressful, frustrating, depressing and sad, yet not surprising, to read a story of a white woman who, despite attacking her family, berating the police while being arrested and damaging a police vehicle, gets to physically go home to her family while so many of those of a darker shade are forced to face physical pain and embarrassment, while some are never allowed to go home and their families are left mourning their loss.

Krista Glover, after spending a night in jail and posting a $2,500 bond, got to go home to her two children and has a court date set for May 31st. How many Black men, with names like Sterling, Garner and so many others who gave in to the police who were arresting them for nothing worthy of being murdered, would see their loved ones that night?

You never want anyone to go through these situations, period. But when you read something like this and then think about the everyday reality that Black people have to think about, prepare for and face, you can’t help but scream privilege and continue the fight.
