Florida State has suspended sophomore running back Dalvin Cook indefinitely after being charged with misdemeanor battery for punching a 21-year old woman multiple times in the face during an argument on June 23rd.
The State Attorney issued a warrant early Friday for Cooks arrest; the 19-year old sophomore turned himself in shortly after and posted a $500 bond.
Head coach Jimbo Fisher quickly issued a statement making it clear that Florida State does not tolerate the behavior that Cook is being accused of.
“Recent events at Florida State University involving members of my football team have brought a lot of attention to the school and program.
It is important to me that our fans and the public be aware that I do not tolerate the type of behavior that was captured on video and that was most recently alleged.”
These reports only add fuel to the media frenzy already surrounding the Seminoles. Earlier this week former freshman quarterback DeAndre Johnson was dismissed from the team after being charged with battery during an incident that was captured on a bars surveillance camera where he hit a female Florida State student.
This is a another significant loss for the Noles as the running back rushed for over 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns just last season. More significantly, this is another blow to the program that has experienced three incidents involving players and allegations of assault in the last 12 months.
Cook will have to appear in court on July 30th.
