The 80s film reboot of Flash Gordon was one of the most popular science fiction characters of the early 20th century. Remember the campy yet enjoyable film in which one of America’s very first space heroes was saving the universe from evil? This year marks 80 years since the original comic book was released.
And it’s coming back. According to The Hollywood Reporter a remake movie is in the works and Twentieth Century Fox has tabbed J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay of Star Trek 3 fame to writer it. In the original story, Flash Gordon was a polo player (NFL player in the 80s version) who was kidnapped and taken to planet Mongo where Ming the Merciless reigned supreme.
The original soundtrack from the 80s film was done by Queen. Remember? “Flash! A-ah…he’ll save every one of us!” That was a joint save by so many. Can’t wait to see what they come up with.
