Week 7 of the NFL season is almost here and there are many things to look for this weekend. With the big games and big records on the line, we've identified five games with interesting storylines to watch out for:
San Francisco 49ers vs. Denver Broncos:
The big story line for this game is Peyton Manning breaking Bret Farve’s passing touchdown record. The Niners will do everything in their power to make sure that does not happen, but with all of the weapons at his disposal, you can be sure that the Broncos will look to pass early and pass often. Another note is whether the 49ers can stop the touchdown machine that is Julius Thomas; he leads the league with 9 TD grabs.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Diego Chargers:
The Chargers are off to a great start at 6-1, but the question is can they keep this pace up or will the curse of Norv Turner come back to haunt them. Phillip Rivers continues to put up numbers, throwing for 15 TDs and only 2 picks while leading the league with a passer rating of 117.6. Another interesting story is the emergence of rookie running back Branden Oliver. He has given the Chargers a consistent rushing attack, which has helped the offense put up big numbers and, more importantly, wins.
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Indianapolis Colts:
After blowing the game against the Panthers last week, settling for a tie, the question is can the Bengals remedy the currently issues they are facing. AJ Green is hurting, Vontaze Burfict is one play away from another call from the league and Andy Dalton still seems to throw that one pick that drives coaches, teammates and fans crazy. So can Mohammad Sanu fill in again for Green? Will Giovanni Bernard have another big day for the Bengals and can the Bengals re-capture that championship swagger that many had felt they were developing? We'll have to wait and see.
Detroit Lions vs. New Orleans Saints:
The biggest questions are whether Calvin "Megatron" Johnson and Jimmy Graham will be playing. The two primary playmakers for the Lions and Saints, respectively, have been hurt, but Matthew Stafford seems to be hurting a lot more than Drew Brees. Fans will be watching to see if Stafford can prove that he can lead a team without Megatron and whether the Lions will finally field a consistent run game between Reggie Bush and Joique Bell.
Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants:
This could be an ugly game for the G-Men. After getting blown out in Philly, and losing Victor Cruz for the season, the Giants seems to be spiraling downwards. That coupled with the Cowboys slowly turning non-believers into believers with each win and Demarco Murray running wild this season (he can break Jim Brown's record for consecutive hundred yard games this weekend), this game could get very ugly for Big Blue very quickly. But one thing we've learned about the Giants under Tom Coughlin is that they somehow rally, despite the obstacles in front of them; and with this being a division game against a hated rival on the road, the Giants will need another passioned rally to win this one. We'll see if they can do it again.ls
