Fight Weekend Preview- Boxing, MMA And More Boxing

Fight fans, get ready for two straight days of non-stop action, starting tonight!

This weekend will see the second coming of the Premier Boxing Champions series live on Spike tonight. Anthony Pettis returns to face tough-as-nails Raphael Dos Anjos while Matt Brown and former UFC Welterweight Champion Johnny Hendricks finally tussle. And lastly, the man who slayed the aliens run, Sergey Kovalev, meets Canadas pride Jean Pascal.

Premiere Boxing Champions live on SPIKE

Boxing is strong this weekend on cable as Andre Berto and Shawn Porter return to the squared circle this Friday live on Spike TV. Berto who won his last fight against Steve Upshur Chambers came off a high profile TKO loss to Jesus Soto Karass. That loss had many thinking he would possibly retire from boxing; but alas, he came back to headline a bout against Josesito Lopez who is currently on a 3-fight win streak.

At the end of the day, I think with the first show, it was great, but I’m pretty sure this show here is going to be a little more exciting on both ends because you’ve got two action-packed fights, guys that are motivated and ready to go, said Andre Berto via the official press call.

Lopez has high profile TKO losses as well to Saul Canelo Alvarez and Marcos Maidana. His style is one made for the center ring and the fight should give both Berto and himself a chance to revive their respective names to a national audience.

I had three really big fights back-to-back-to-back, said Lopez via the official conference call. Tough fights. Canelo is just overmatched as far as size. Really, really big fighter and I was in over my head as far as weight and size, but you leave every loss or fight behind you. You try to learn from it, whether it’s a win or a loss, and you move. You move forward. Every fight’s a different fight. Every fighter fights a different style.

The co-main event is Shawn Porter who is making his return from his first loss to Kell Brook last August.

Kovalev vs. Pascal

HBO heats up Saturday night with a championship bout between Sergey Kovalev and Jean Pascal for a light heavyweight title. If the press conference is any indication of the intensity of the fight to come, this will be a fight you can’t afford to miss.

Kovalev holds an 85% knockout ratio and made his biggest mark when he won a 12-round decision over Bernard Hopkins recently. Haitian born, Jean Pascal, who now lives in Quebec, was victorious his last outing on HBO against Lucian Bute.

UFC 185: Pettis vs. Dos Anjos

Anyone familiar with the famous show time kick executed against Ben Henderson back in 2010 at WEC 53 knows who UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis is. His style is remarkably refreshing and free and it will be tested against a game Brazilian named Raphael Dos Anjos. The two meet this Saturday live on pay-per-view.

Pettis successfully defended his belt against Gilbert Melendez last December finishing him via guillotine choke in the second round. Dos Anjos is currently riding a 3-fight win streak with victories over notables Jason High, Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz.

This weekend has all fight fans covered with two days of combat sports greatness. So as you get ready for the fights, we leave you with this:
