FIGHT WEEK PREVIEW

March 14       Bellator 112: Straus vs. Curran

March 15       UFC 171: Hendricks vs. Lawler

Happy Friday fight fans. We have stumbled upon yet another great week of fights to look forward to. MMA is on swole this weekend with Bellator MMA and UFC rounding out the weekend.

Bellator 111: Straus vs. Curran

Daniel Straus and Pat Curran face each other for the third time to decide who is the best between them. With each having a win over the other this battle for the Featherweight belt should be epic.

Featherweight Champion Straus has won many of his fights via decision and is a solid performer. However, Curran has mixed it up more with many wins coming by KO/TKO or submission. This match should make for an interesting third paring.

In addition, the opening round of the Welterweight Tournament is starting with standouts like Nah-Shon Burrell in the running. Bellator is definitely catching up with UFC in terms of quality fights so my Friday night is pretty much spoken for.

UFC 171: Hendricks vs. Lawler

After losing a controversial split decision to Georges “Rush” St. Pierre, otherwise known as “GSP”, last November, Jonny Hendricks has been looking for vindication. With GSP now on hiatus and vacating his belt, Hendricks is facing off against Robbie Lawler for the Welterweight Championship.

Racking up three consecutive impressive wins in 2013, Lawler is poised for the title shot. Decorated with titles from Superbrawl, Icon, EliteXC and Strikeforce, Lawler is a true veteran that is still hungry for UFC gold.

Also facing off on the card is Carlos Condit vs. Tyron Woodley. Both are coming off of impressive wins against big opponents so this matchup was a bit fortuitous.

Condit expressed an interest in fighting Nick Diaz however Diaz wants only be considered for title bouts. This matchup should be interesting due to the ambition and aggressive performance of each fighter.

Also on the card is Hector Lombard vs. Jake Shields for what should be an intense matchup. Lombard is extremely aggressive but Shields has fought on the highest levels. The main card for UFC 171 is stacked and well yeah, I guess my Saturday night is spoken for too.

If you are like me this weekend, you will be in full vegetation mode glued to the enormous amount of quality fight product available. Party on my friends.
