This weekend is chock full of action folks so lets get right into your Power Sports options for this weekend:
UFC 191: JOHNSON VS. DODSON 2
UFC Flyweight Champion, Demetrious Mighty Mouse Johnson enters the cage for a rematch against John The Magician Dodson and fans are hoping they recreate their epic battle on January 26th, 2013, one that was the headliner for UFC on FOX 6.
Johnson (22-2-1) is currently on an 8-fight win streak with his last win coming via a last second arm bar in the 5th and final round against Japanese standout, Kyoji Horiguchi. Johnson has been dominating the flyweight division ever since he won a split decision victory over Joseph Benavidez in 2012 at UFC 152.
Dodsons (17-6) last loss was to Johnson when they first met in 2013. Since he has racked up three consecutive wins, two of which were knockout victories.
The two are keeping the UFC interesting with its plethora of content and forgettable events now that the UFC has so many shows occurring monthly. With Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre and Jon Jones all out of competition, the UFC is rallying hard behind Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor and the “little guys” aka flyweights, who always provide face paced action. PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS: DIRRELL VS. RUBIO
Anthony The Dog Dirrell takes on Mexican brawler, Marco Antonio El Veneno Rubio in a rough and rugged stylistic match-up. Premier Boxing Champions delivers this event live from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
For the first time in Dirrells pro career, hell be fighting after a defeat.
Dirrell (27-1-1, 22 KOs) was dethroned as a 168-pound world champion after losing a majority decision to Badou Jack in Chicago on April 24.
Its certainly not the first time the 30-year-old Dirrell has dealt with adversity. His backstory includes winning a battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and suffering a broken left leg and fractured left wrist during a motorcycle accident. Dirrell, of Flint, Michigan, has a rod in his left leg from my knee on down.
Like Dirrell, Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KOs) is also coming off a loss after 160-pound champion Gennady Golovkin stopped the 35-year-old native of Mexico in the second round this past October.
Prior to the defeat, Rubio had won six straight fights, and entering this showdown against Dirrell, hes on a 15-2 run that dates back to 2009. During that span, Rubio stopped current 160-pound titleholder David Lemieux in the seventh round and went the distance against former champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., losing by unanimous decision.
Given Rubios experience and ring savvy, this figures to be Dirrells most difficult challenge since twice facing Sakio Bika, against whom he fought to a draw before winning by unanimous decision.
