Cowboys fans are optimistically predicting an NFC East Division title, but the slew of injuries that have hit the team say otherwise. In the latest training camp setback, first-round pick Ezekiel Elliott may miss some time after pulling a hamstring in training camp practice on Wednesday. Team officials say hes going to be ready for the start of season, but he couldnt finish practice and will get some rest before returning to action.
Elliott was unexpectedly taken by the Cowboys with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft and analysts have been singing his praises as a multi-dimensional impact player ever since. Dallas obviously believes in the former Ohio State Buckeye as Elliots draft position is the highest a running back has been selected since the Cleveland Browns took Trent Richardson with their third overall pick in 2012.
Not a major injury but they might hold him out until first game of preseason.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport says, Its just a precaution but the Cowboys are protecting their investments and a player who they feel will be integral to their offense.
Elliot is expected to carry a heavy load this season and help the Cowboys compete in a wide-open division, where a few emerging players here and there could swing the tide in one teams favor.
If Elliot is further hampered by any problems, his inactivity could open the door for former Redskins star back Alfred Morris, whose veteran, workmanlike approach to the game is always a good influence on a team.
This is where you (Morris) sell yourself to the offensive line, said one NFL analyst, they like the grind it out back who will give you four yards and a cloud of dust, come to practice everyday and stay healthy, keep his mouth shut and just produces.
Most NFL insiders believe that Morris wouldnt miss a beat if he had to spell Elliot for a significant period of time. Jerry Jones, however, isnt trying to find that out.
