With one of the most exciting and entertaining NBAs free agency periods that we have seen in years, there seems to be another team looking to get involved in the drama.
Brooklyn, stand up!
There have been reports of three-time NBA All-Star point guard Deron Williams beginning conversations with the Brooklyn Nets in regards to being released or considering a possible buyout on the remaining two-years, $43.3 million left on his contract. According to reports, if an agreement can be made Williams is looking towards seeking a free agent contract with his hometown team the Dallas Mavericks.
Its no secret that the Nets have been looking to move the contracts of Williams along with the hefty $24.9 million price tag of Joe Johnson and begin the rebuilding process, so this move could be beneficial for them. But the Nets are considering a buyout as their first option as opposed to waiving Williams, for salary cap reasons.
Although Williams is coming off a season of career lows, including a career low 39 percent shooting, the Mavericks could possibly use him to fill an empty point guard position left by Rajon Rondo. Mark Cuban, still seemingly scorned by the Deandre Jordan fiasco, should consider this move as another option to add to the Mavs roster and look to save money by pushing the Hometown Discount.”
