For the second time in two nights, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle held a surprise performance at New York's Comedy Cellar. As Whodini once opined in a memorable hook: Friends! How many of us have them? Friends Ones we can depend on. On Wednesday night, Rock and Chappelle received their answers after inviting a few reliable acts to join them as Bill Bellamy, Marlon Wayans and Kevin Hart rounded out their impromptu comedy Illuminati's stage ensemble as Questlove chronicled the night on Instagram and Twitter.
Unfortunately, in this day age of smartphones, no video exists of either Tuesday or Wednesday night's performances. That's the Illuminati for you. Also, given his penchant for disappearing to Africa, Dave Chappelle's bit on South African prisons sounds like it may have entailed some personal research. Sadly, we may never hear know.
"I was working on the other side of the world when suddenly I got a “get yo arse down here NOW!!!!!” text. Sure enough I made it just in time to see the best night ever at the comedy cellar: Hannibal [Buress] was on 1st, then Chapelle did an amazing off the top bit about what life will be like in a South African jail with prosthetic legs…and the pope quitting his career too. & then the floodgates opened: Hart riffed on Spilling drinks on Hov then everyone got in a cipher doing a mini roast/dozens/lovefest about each other. It was honest to god like watching the comic version of “scenario” or “the symphony” jokes and punchlines were flying fast. Stories of way back when was told. And I had the best seat in the house (Dave told me to play piano….but I took the bench just to get a good view) amazing night watching #themaster5" – See more at: http://www.vulture.com/2013/02/chappelle-and-rock-performed-together-again.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+nymag%2Fvulture+(Vulture+-+nymag.com%27s+Entertainment+and+Culture+Blog)#sthash.ajXNsnER.dpuf
