In the ongoing Chris Brown saga, two hours before the start of Wednesday's court hearing, Brown’s attorneys notified prosecutors that they were rejecting a plea deal offer. As a result, they’ll now head to trial in September.
Initially, Brown had agreed to the plea deal which would have meant pleading guilty to assaulting a fan in Washington D.C. in exchange for no prison time or probation related to the case. However, Brown and his legal team objected to the prosecutors' description of the alleged assault.
"If they want a trial, that's what they're going to get," said Mark J. Geragos, Brown's attorney.
Prosecutors on the case argue Brown, along with his friend and bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, 35, struck Parker Adams, 25, of Beltsville, Md., after Adams tried to take a picture with the Brown. Breezy’s attorneys claim Brown and his bodyguard acted in self-defense.
Rejecting a plea deal in the same case in January, Brown recently spent 108 days in prison, after a California judge found him to be in violation of his parole stemming from his 2009 domestic assault case against then girlfriend Rihanna. He was kicked out of a court ordered rehabilitation program in March. During a May 9 court appearance, Brown was sentenced to serve 365 days in custody. However he was given credit for the 234 days he had already spent in rehab and jail. Brown was released from custody on June 2nd.
Working to stay out of prison and reignite his career, Brown is also being sought after by BET for a reality series documenting his post prison sentence life. A source told TMZ.com, ''BET has made it clear to several production companies the network would absolutely air a Chris Brown reality series, chronicling his life after jail.'' BET allegedly held a focus group on Tuesday (June 24th) in San Fernando Valley, California, to see if viewers would be interested in the show’s concept. The group – comprised of female participants – were split, but the majority said they would tune in to the show just to watch the 25-year-old entertainer’s struggles.
