Trey Burke scored Michigan’s first seven points, but Spike Albrecht led Michigan in scoring after scoring 17 hustle points in the first half, and had Michigan up by as many as 12 points.
Spike Albrecht has the stature of a Spike Lee and averaged just 1.8 points per game during the season, but with Burke on the bench with two quick fouls he’s played big. Albrecht is now a perfect 9-for-9 from three in the NCAA Tournament and 4-for-4 tonight, but his niftiest basket came at the basket.
He scored his ninth point on a teardrop floater over Gorgui Dieng that touched the sky before falling back through the hoop. On his next possession, his outlet pass at halfcourt from his backside to Mitch McGary led to a Nik Stauskas trey.
For much of the first half it appeared they wouldn’t need much production from any of their four potential first round picks, thanks to their 5-11, 165 pound backup point guard whose only offer came from Appalachian State.
Michigan leads 38-37 at the half, but Albrecht has the Twitterverse on fire.
