On March 8th PPV will be ablaze with a leather shower as Alredo “El Perro” Angulo takes on Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The event is the first fight for both since losing to Erislandy Lara and Floyd Mayweather, respectively, and it is sure to promise a center ring throw down. Showtime has also created yet another installment of their ALL ACCESS series with this bout as its highlight.
Airing tonight at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime let’s look at this great match-up coming Saturday, March 8th live from Las Vegas.
Canelo Alvarez is a man still at the top of his prime. The fact that he couldn’t best Floyd “Money” Mayweather shouldn’t be seen as a black eye on his record because Mayweather is the best fighter on the planet. However the one huge upside is that Canelo Alvarez’s name is a lot brighter now post-record breaking PPV sales in that last fight so he still is the new ‘Golden Boy’ at the promotional stable. Staying active to retain the new PPV fans he’s gained since the Mayweather fight is a great business move and the fans need to be reminded why Canelo is considered a fan favorite with his style.
Opponent, Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo is also attempting to rebound from a loss and in his case it was a controversial one. His last fight against Erislandy Lara ended in a loss via 10th round TKO and a fractured orbital above his left eye in a barnburner fight. This is the highest profile fight of “The Dog’s” career and a win over Canelo Alvarez would put him in real title contention with another high profile win or two. With that said Angulo has nothing to lose. The light is firmly placed on Canelo to start a comeback march to the title and Angulo is popularly seen as a worthy but eventual victim of Canelo.
However, this is Canelo’s first fight after Mayweather and he knows that the odds favor his victory. Canelo’s poise and ferocity make him exciting and he will surely be on full power to show the world he is still one of the best. This is what makes Golden Boy Promotions and Showtime the new flavor savored most by boxing aficionados. Watch the journey to the fight tonight on Canelo vs. Angulo ALL ACCESS tonight.
