Last Sunday’s (June 30th) BET Awards has been ranked as one of the top award shows of the year as the telecast drew in 7.9 million viewers, which was more viewers than this year’s Golden Globes, Billboard Music Awards, and People’s Choice Awards.
In addition, there were 11 million tweets related to the awards telecast in which the show was a trending topic on Twitter.
The 2014 BET Awards was the second most watched BET Awards in the show’s history. The 2009 BET Awards, which was the first awards show to pay tribute to Michael Jackson days after his death, scored the most viewership in the show’s 13-year history.
Some of this year’s highlights from the BET Awards included performances by Pharrell Williams, Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z and Beyonce (via a pre-recorded concert performance).
