Baylor’s newly hired assistant strength coach Brandon Washington was fired after he was arrested Saturday morning for soliciting a prostitute in Waco, Texas.
After news broke of Washington’s arrest, Baylor immediately terminated him from its coaching staff. He actions which are a Class B misdemeanor, are punishable by up to 180 days in jail and $2,000 fine. He was released the same day from McLennan County jail after posting a bond of $1,000.
Washington was brought on Baylor’s coaching staff in December along with newly hired head coach Matt Rhule, whose staff he was a member of for three years at Temple.
Rhule released a statement, saying, “When we arrived at Baylor, we made a commitment to character and integrity in our program. Brandon’s actions are completely unacceptable. We will not tolerate conduct that is contradictory to these values.”
Baylor has recently been in the midst of controversy after reportedly mishandling allegations of sexual assault and gang rapes during former head coach Art Briles’ tenure. The fallout resulted in the firing of Briles, the resignations of athletic director Ian McCaw and president Ken Starr and numerous lawsuits that are now pending.
