A Few Minutes with Del Matthews, MLB’s Senior Director of Baseball Development

When you have the opportunity to speak with someone who comes with a strong family background in the world of sports, you should take the time to listen. That’s just what we did with Del Matthews, the Senior Director of Baseball Development at Major League Baseball.

Del is the son of the Rookie of the Year (1973) and All Star player (1979) Gary Matthews, and brother of former major league player and All-Star (2006), Gary Matthews Jr. This baseball family has found great success on the field, and now with Del, that success continues off the field, first in Chicago with the White Sox and now in the corporate offices of MLB.

We speak with Matthews about the issue of diversity in baseball, his family background and some of his plans in his new position.
