The Colin Kaepernick conundrum that the NFL has embroiled itself in is of their own making. However, as was the case with John Elway on Thursday, they keep passing the buck right back to Kaep. The Denver Broncos can’t seem to get things right at quarterback. Paxton Lynch, who Elway once said reminded him of himself, has been demoted to the third string behind Case Keenum and rookie signal-caller Chad Kelly. Thus far, none of the quarterbacks has proven he is better than the others beyond the shadow of a doubt.
A wise man once said, if you have two quarterbacks then you got no quarterbacks. But you know who IS better than the quarterbacks the Broncos have on their roster? Colin Kaepernick. However, Elway did the customary NFL thing by blaming Colin for his current unsigned free agent status.
The Blackballing of Colin Kaepernick is Now Undeniable
When all of this went down, I mean the very moment it was realized protesting was going to be at least a season long thing for QB Colin Kaepernick, all of us could foresee what was in the future: a once-promising quarterback who was soon to become an NFL exile.
“You know what, and I said this a while ago: Colin had his chance to be here. We offered him a contract. He didn’t take it. And as I said at my depositionand I dont know if Ill be legally able to say thisbut he had his chance to be here. He passed it.”
The deposition Elway is referring to happened in May when Kaep’s lawyers deposed more than two dozen NFL team owners and executives as part of the grievance process over whether the league conspired to keep Kaepernick out of the NFL out of fear of President Donald Trump.
John Elway’s Letter Reveals Societal Contradictions
That there are contradictions inherent throughout the American experiment is as obvious as a nose in the middle of one’s face. These contradictions pop up over and over again. Like, how the so-called leaders of the free world managed to elect a pseudo ambiguous racist and not-so-ambiguous misogynist to office.
Fans may recall how the Denver Broncos courted the idea of signing Kaep two years ago. The new contract would have reduced Kaep’s guaranteed money by nearly $5 million. What nitwit would have signed a deal that would have shorted himself out $ 5 million? That would have been a reduction of 42 percent.
30-year-old Kaepernick, who led the 49ers to a division championship in 2012 and a Super Bowl appearance in 2013, remains unsigned and unwanted. According to Article 17 of the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and NFLPA, collusion that is alleged to have occurred or discovered during the preceding 90 days. Kaepernick filed his grievance on October 15, 2017. So the alleged collusion took place or could have been discovered, at point(s) between mid-July and mid-October 2017, long after the Broncos trade deal fell through.
Long story short, Kaep’s rejecting an offer from the Denver Broncos within 90 days of his collusion filing does not disprove collusion. In the eyes of some, it may improve the chances a favorable ruling. After all, there are 32 NFL teams.
