Comic book subject matter has proven to be a boon in movie theaters and on the small screen as well. To that end, the CW network has ordered a pilot for The Flash, with production beginning next week. So far, little is known about the series. But Glee star Grant Gustin has been selected to play scientist Barry Allen, the alter ego of the DC Comics hero the Flash. . As is often the case with super heroes, Allen gains his powers after an experiment goes wrong.
This isn’t the first time Flash has come to television. There was a short lived live action series that aired in 1990 and starred John Wesley Shipp. The CW version will be the latest in a recent string of DC Comics series. The network got much love for the Superman prequel Smallville and currently airs Arrow, the story of Green Arrow.
CW’s success has inspired other networks to get in on the superhero craze. FOX is gearing up to launch the Batman prequel series Gotham next season.
