Denzel Washington is heavy in the running to play villain Lex Luthor in the upcoming "Man of Steel" sequel, "Batman vs. Superman." According to upi.com, Warner Bros. has already casted Ben Affleck as Batman, Harry Cavill will play Superman and Gad Gadot will play Wonder Woman. Although WB hasn't officially announced Lex Luthor will even be in the movie, speculation about Luthor's role in the upcoming film stems from the character's logo being spotted in the prior Superman reboot starring Cavill.
Securing the role, which has previously been played on the big screen by Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey, would be another ground-breaking accomplishment in Washington's illustrious career. Washington, a double Oscar winner, would be the first African-American actor to portray Superman's arch nemisis (Lex Luthor) in a movie.
