Derek Jeter's retirement date is looming in the near future. Will it be 2014? Nobody is quite sure. However, when Jeter does decide to call it quits he'll have a second career to fall back on. Jeter had a lot of time to read last last season while he rehabbed and spent time watching the Yankees from a distance. On Thursday, Jeter announced a partnership with the publishing house Simon & Schuster called Jeter Publishing. The first books will be released in 2014.

Jeter laughed when asked what his role will be with the new publishing venture. “I run the show – the CEO. I call the shots,” he joked, before turning serious.
“I understand how important content is this day and age,” he said. "You get an opportunity to share people’s stories – it doesn’t necessarily have to be baseball – that I find interesting, I’m happy I get an opportunity to do it. I’m looking forward to it. This is my publishing imprint. It has my name on it. I’m going to try and make everyone proud.” Jeter’s imprint will publish adult non-fiction and children’s books.
Not going to lie though. Part of me wants him to play until he's 50, just so we'll have an excuse to call him 50 Shades of Gray. It's a unique career move for a star of his caliber, but given his work ethic I wouldn't bet against him excelling.
