On Saturday, Michigan wide receiver Jeremy Gallon "almost" had the greatest receiving day in college football history. His performance included 369 receiving yards on 14 catches, with 2 touchdowns in a 63-47 win over Indiana. His huge day is best in the history of the Big Ten conference. The only player to top these numbers was Louisiana Tech's Troy Edwards who did so in a road game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 1998.
Edwards caught lightning in a bottle posting Madden-like numbers of 21 catches for a record 405 receiving yards while also adding three touchdowns. The crazy thing is that Edward's La. Tech squad was trampled in the process losing the game 56-27. But despite the loss, no one can take away the effort exhibited by Edwards and his quarterback Tim Rattay who finished the day completing 46-of-68 passes for 590 yards. Edwards had touchdown catches of 94, 80, and 52 all in the second half.
It may not have been the storybook ending for such a spectacular performance, however putting up 400-plus yards receiving is a site to behold. Edwards went on to have one of the most prolific seasons in college football history finishing with a ridiculous 140 receptions (11.5 per game) for 1,996 yards and 27 touchdowns.
